There's something about puppets that gives me the creeps, which I guess is a good thing since the movie, "Coraline" stars a cast of creepy puppets, with my gal pal Dakota Fanning voicing the lead.

Nothing like a vampire movie on a dull, rainy Southern California afternoon, especially when said flick turns out to be a freaking scary gem like "Let The Right One In".
The title refers to the Morrissey song "Let the Right One Slip In" but also to the aspect of vampire lore which says that vampires cannot enter a house unless invited. Banshee wonders if vampires have to study these rules the way we mere mortals do for a driver's license?
"Let The Right One In", is a wonderful story of a young boy who befriends a neighbor girl who turns out to be a vampire. Complications ensue, but then they always do. Netflix it!
Heath Ledger must be spinning in his grave wondering how his blockbuster movie, "The Dark Knight," can not get no love from the Academy for Best Picture. No, instead a really lame movie such as "The Reader" garners a nomination for Best Picture. How is this possible? It's too freaking scary to imagine that a movie that grosses over a billion bucks at the box office doesn't merit a best picture nod. Is the Academy anti-box office or just anti-comic book? Perhaps, it's a mixture of both. It's a damn shame the Joker isn't around to settle the score.

Boys with their toys. Who new GI Joe would get a movie before the world's most popular doll, Barbie? The fact that Hollywood thinks we want to see a movie like this is freaking scary. Viewers can expect more fighting than at a SAG board meeting.
In case you missed this pregame Superbowl TV spot for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Thank god, I mean Michael Bay, for not giving us another Kate Blanchett English costume drama!
Watchmen are a whole new breed of costume superheros with attitude for those of us who never read the limited edition series published by DC Comics, shame on you, and what are you waiting for?
The film version of Watchmen looks like it's gonna drop soon at your local cineplex now that Fox Studios and Warner Bros have kissed and made up over who actually controls the rights to the project. "Bring me the head of Joel Silver on tray," was a phrase allegedly overheard several times by the lunch crowd at the Smoke House.
Regardless, Watchmen is surely to awaken movie goers from their Oscar nominated film doldrums, or in some cases just plain dull movies like suburban nightmare Revolutionary Road.
Please, no more cerebral films for at least 9 more months; I just want a good, old fashioned CGI, cutting edge $200 million flick with a good story and lots of mayhem. So get ready to race to the theatre, grab a big bucket of popcorn and a Coke and be thoroughly entertained. Watchmen, now that's something worth watching.

"The Uninvited" is the latest in a long line of Asian horror remakes, which has become a genre all its own. The cinemas have been flooded with Korean remakes (K-horror) and Japanese remakes (J-horror), and I'm starting to wonder if viewers have exhausted these remakes at the expense of original horror films like "The Strangers" and "Teeth."
The story revolves around Anna (played by Emily Browning) who has returned home from a psychiatric facility to find her widower father has been engaged to her mother's former nurse (Elizabeth Banks), who may have had a role in the wife's death. Along with her older sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel), Anna investigates her future stepmother's past all while having visions of her vengeful mother.
Knowing the shaky track record of these remakes, the film could be a success like "The Grudge" and "The Ring" or it could be a flop like "Pulse" or "One Missed Call." One plus is that it's based on a horror film well-received by both critics and audiences in South Korea called "A Tale of Two Sisters." On the other hand, the film has not been screened for critics, which is usually a bad omen for a film's success in the states.
Maybe "The Uninvited" can buck the trend of recent remakes like "The Eye" and "Quarantine" and offer some style and substance without getting lost in translation.

Audition is a classic horror thriller that will have you reaching in the dark for the light switch or let me put it another way, the Japanese girl in this movie makes Fatal Attraction's Glenn Close look like a girl scout selling cookies.
There's something deeply unsettling and disturbing in this tale of boy meets girl, the wrong girl, that is makes this Harry Wish He Never Met Sally. And yet, Audition is mesmerizing, compelling and riveting like a car crash you can't help but steal a glance at.
As you can see from Audition's trailer, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." One thing is for certain, Audition by director Takashi Miike sure did make this Banshee scream!
