There will be blood. Lots and lots of blood, starting on Friday 13th, 2009 as Jason returns once again to mow down the pretty young things hanging out at Crystal Lake. And, Jason, after your done taking care of business, there's some people in Afghanistan we'd like you to meet. But seriously, you can tell the economy is so bad, when Jason, who is probably about a 107 in movie years is forced back out of retirement after his pension fund went belly up in this wall street debacle. No wonder he's angry! I'm pissed off, too! Where's my axe? Don't worry, Jason. If you can make it anywhere, it's New York City. I'd hedge my bet on you. Exit your car lease early - no penalties!

Freaking Scary Mary Poppins

What freaking scares me the most? Nice people, really nice people like Mary Poppins, who seems too good to be true. Makes Banshee wonder what evil lurks in their heart? Sure, Mary Poppins can't walk on water, but what when you can fly why get your feet wet? And what's her obession with teaching children new songs? Is Supercalifragilous actually a spell? Now, the real truth can be told once and for all about the singing, flying nanny in "Scary Mary Poppins." I'd pay to see that!

Watchmen Superheroes With Attitude

Watchmen are a whole new breed of costume superheros with attitude for those of us who never read the limited edition series published by DC Comics, shame on you, and what are you waiting for?

The film version of Watchmen looks like it's gonna drop soon at your local cineplex now that Fox Studios and Warner Bros have kissed and made up over who actually controls the rights to the project. "Bring me the head of Joel Silver on tray," was a phrase allegedly overheard several times by the lunch crowd at the Smoke House.

Regardless, Watchmen is surely to awaken movie goers from their Oscar nominated film doldrums, or in some cases just plain dull movies like suburban nightmare Revolutionary Road.

Please, no more cerebral films for at least 9 more months; I just want a good, old fashioned CGI, cutting edge $200 million flick with a good story and lots of mayhem. So get ready to race to the theatre, grab a big bucket of popcorn and a Coke and be thoroughly entertained. Watchmen, now that's something worth watching.

The Uninvited - A Tale of Two Sisters

Here's Chance Welch's review over at Dailyskiff.com:

"The Uninvited" is the latest in a long line of Asian horror remakes, which has become a genre all its own. The cinemas have been flooded with Korean remakes (K-horror) and Japanese remakes (J-horror), and I'm starting to wonder if viewers have exhausted these remakes at the expense of original horror films like "The Strangers" and "Teeth."

The story revolves around Anna (played by Emily Browning) who has returned home from a psychiatric facility to find her widower father has been engaged to her mother's former nurse (Elizabeth Banks), who may have had a role in the wife's death. Along with her older sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel), Anna investigates her future stepmother's past all while having visions of her vengeful mother.

Knowing the shaky track record of these remakes, the film could be a success like "The Grudge" and "The Ring" or it could be a flop like "Pulse" or "One Missed Call." One plus is that it's based on a horror film well-received by both critics and audiences in South Korea called "A Tale of Two Sisters." On the other hand, the film has not been screened for critics, which is usually a bad omen for a film's success in the states.

Maybe "The Uninvited" can buck the trend of recent remakes like "The Eye" and "Quarantine" and offer some style and substance without getting lost in translation.

Lead actress Emily Browning rose to fame after starring in "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" alongside funnyman Jim Carrey, and Elizabeth Banks has
been a reliable star with recent comedy hits like "Role Models" and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno." Let's see how they try their hand at horror and suspense.

"The Uninvited" is rated PG-13 and opens in theaters today.

Audition grabs you by the throat!

Audition is a classic horror thriller that will have you reaching in the dark for the light switch or let me put it another way, the Japanese girl in this movie makes Fatal Attraction's Glenn Close look like a girl scout selling cookies.



There's something deeply unsettling and disturbing in this tale of boy meets girl, the wrong girl, that is makes this Harry Wish He Never Met Sally. And yet, Audition is mesmerizing, compelling and riveting like a car crash you can't help but steal a glance at.



As you can see from Audition's trailer, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." One thing is for certain, Audition by director Takashi Miike sure did make this Banshee scream!
