Eliza Pimps Dollhouse on Hulu TV

>> 20.2.09

Too little, too late, for the ill-fated Dollhouse as nervous television honchos jumped on the Alec Baldwin Hulu bandwagon and released their own Hulu TV spot.  Eliza D reveals she's actually an alien.  Hmm, the notion that members of the D house are actually aliens instead of airheads sounds like a vast improvement.  Joss W, why didn't you think of that?  Good thing for Eliza it's pilot season.  Click this for my original Dollhouse review.

Your older review isn't loading, so I can't see it, but I'm assuming it isn't glowing. After watching the first two eps, I think it's going to develop into a pretty good series. I follow the rule of "Never judge a series by its pilot" because pilots are often terrible. They have the job of introducing characters and setting and cramming a plot in, and that usually slows things down or screws up the flow or writing in some way. Also, no time for character development yet. I think Echo is going to start remembering/compositing personalities and that this will get much, much better as she does.

Ah, the eternal faith of the optimist. If Dollhouse were to go the direction you're forecasting indeed it might prove interesting, worth watching. My fear is that for any show if the pilot doesn't measure up the subsequent shows won't either. Why? Money. Generally pilot episodes are shot for 2 to 4 times the budget of the rest of the episodes in order to attract viewers. If the pilot is lacking then the episodes generally don't have a much punch. Think of it this way as being sold a pair of Jimmy Choos only to discover their actually Payless knockoffs. One sign to look for that the money is getting tight is that the show does more bottle episodes, stays inside to explore the workings of Dollhouse rather than venture outside on location for big action sequences which burn up the $$$.
